Confucius said, “Life among virtuous people is like living among orchids.” Orchids bloom out of sight, emitting their own beauty and fragrance even when no one is there to appreciate them.
Confucian students are similar. Hold yourself to high standards even when you are alone or out of sight. Orchids are said to be one of the “Four Gentlemen” of Chinese civilization, along with plums, bamboos, and persimmons. This design is inspired by the fan from the Shen Yun dance piece “The Guardians of the Inner Hall.”
Since ancient times, Chinese round fans have been a favorite item of traditional Chinese women with their elegance and subtlety. Here, the orchid is born alone in the valley, showing its humble beginnings and determination to spread its fragrant beauty far and wide.”
